The origin of Omya Andina´s Calcium Carbonate

Omya Andina´s quarry is located on the eastern margin of the Central Cordillera of Colombia in an area known as Rio Claro In general terms the rocks that dominates the Rio Claro area are metamorphic in origin: schists, gneisses, quartzites and marbles Marble is by definition a crystalline metamorphic rock form as a product of metamorphism and recrystallization of limestones The pictures below present the geologic map of the area where Omya Andina´s quarry is located

The map, published by the Colombian Geological Survey in 1975, shows the different rock units that crops out in quarry area Picture No.1 shows a fraction of the map with the legend, the year published and the authors Picture No.2 zooms into the specific area where the quarry is located (red square) and the legend associated with these rocks The rocks Omya Andina uses for the production of Calcium Carbonate are marbles
